PALM SUNDAY

Christians on the move

The congregations of St Andrew’s, St Thomas’ and Christ Church joined together to walk from Thongsbridge to Christ Church carrying a cross. The service began with the blessing of Palm Crosses at St Andrew’s before we carried a cross to Christ Church, the children waved flags, and we played loud worship music as we moved along. Many local residents waved at us and smiled as we made our way to Christ Church and folks seemed to keep joining us along the way to swell our numbers. It was great to see so many people smiling and waving at us even though the rain began to fall. It’s a great encouragement to us as a Christian community to feel that people were pleased to see us. When we arrived at New Mill village centre we became silent and followed Jonathan who was carrying the cross up Sude Hill and into church, Alex accompanied our walk with a single drum beat and the church bell tolled over New Mill.

We then moved into church and joined with members of the congregations who were already gathered at church and focused our worship and thanks and prayer. The Passion narrative was read during the service at different stations in the church, and the prayers were shared between the adults and the children in a workshop session. A full liturgy for the service is included with this item on the power point display.

The service was very powerful for those involved in it.
