GIVING MONEY

Why give?

How much?

How can I give?

The Facts and Figures

Sean's sermon on February 28th was about this - you can download his Powerpoint slides (3.6MB large file) here.

Why give?

Our giving is more than just about keeping the show on the road, although that is important, it is about responding to God’s love with generosity.

£947is what it costs each week to keep our church open, including heating,   lighting, repairs, other running costs, and the money which goes to pay for having a vicar.

Every church relies on direct giving from its congregation for the majority of its income.  So how much of that £947 do we receive each week from regular giving?

£532

which means £415 every week has to be made up from fundraising, donations and the income we receive from weddings and funerals. This is a large amount of money to find and in 2009 we had building costs as well, leaving us with a shortfall of £194.

To not only maintain our level of ministry but to improve our support and visibility in the whole parish we need to increase our giving.

Could you help narrow the gap?

How much should I give?

There is no one answer – it is a prayerful and thoughtful choice we all make for ourselves.

We hope that many will be able to increase their giving with the generosity which comes from a thankful heart. Clearly there are some who will not be able to do so at this time and some who have increased their giving recently. Be assured that we very much appreciate your continuing financial support.

There are a few others who have not yet considered the question of a regular financial commitment up to now and it is to those in particular we are looking for a small regular monthly contribution to support our Church.

How can I give?

To the church, how you give makes a lot of difference. Regular giving is so important to help meet our regular outgoings.

·         For most people the most convenient way is by monthly  Standing Order.  It’s best for the Church too.

·         If you have income which comes in at irregular intervals you may prefer to use the blue envelope scheme when you put your planned giving contribution into an envelope each week including the times you are unable to attend church.

The church is grateful for all your gifts but might it be possible to change your method of giving to a Standing order or, if it’s more appropriate, to go onto the envelope scheme?

If you are a taxpayer you can help the Church at no cost to you by gift aiding all your giving. Can you do this?

Christ Church reclaimed £5,000 in gift aid last year!

Don’t forget you can change standing orders at any time.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of your giving why not speak, in absolute confidence, to Jimmy Ellam, our Treasurer.
